The last qualifying race for the Velka Pardubicka will be run on Saturday 2008-09-09
Of the ten entries for the Bargiel Prize, sponsored by the Charvat Group, on September 13th, Ascot, Waterfall, Grup and Lakreg are not entered for the VP. Hirsch, Kasjer, Pocci and Roosevelt have already qualified. Pocci almost fell in the May qualifying race, and finished well behind. However, he won a minor race quite well at Pardubice on August 23rd. Pocci is trained by Josef Van’a, who has plenty of VP entries, some of them with better records than Pocci. Only two of the runners on Saturday are making a late attempt to qualify for the VP on October 12th. 7-y-o Shirley was a very promising young chaser three years ago, but in 2006 and 2007 she ran poorly. In her only outing this year, she won a small race at Albertovec. Her performance this weekend will be of interest. Marka, also a 7-y-o mare, could do quite well in this modest qualifying race, but is scarcely a contender for the big race on October 12th. Pocci and Hirsch may be the best in this race, but we are unlikely to see the winner of the Velka Pardubicka running this Saturday.
