This year’s 127th running of the Velka Pardubicka with Česká pojišťovna attracted 700 000 more television viewers than last year’s race. The highpoint of the Czech steeplechasing season was watched by 3 000 000 viewers on Czech Television’s ČT1 and ČT Sport channels. Others watched the transmission on foreign channels and in PMU betting offices in 24 countries. Twenty-two thousand spectators watched the race at the course.

8-y-o Power Zar won the last of the four qualification races for the 127th running of the Velka Pardubicka with Česká pojišťovna. He comfortably fulfilled the conditions for running in the Velka Pardubicka, and is one of thirty-two Czech-trained horses qualified to take part in the top race at the October meeting, which is the highlight of the Czech horseracing season. Trained by Josef Váňa, snr., he was ridden by Sertash Ferhanov, with whom the trainer is reckoning, if the horse runs in the Velka.

The winner of the third qualification race for the 127th running of the Velka Pardubicka with Česká pojišťovna was again last year’s winner, Charme Look. He defended his win from last year, and again led all the way round. This time he was ridden by Jan Faltejsek, who had won on him in last year’s Velka Pardubicka. In the course of the afternoon, Faltejsek rode a hat-trick of winners.

Wroclaw racecourse has for the first time hosted a race in theCrystal Cup series, which also includes the Velka Pardubicka. There were some Czech-trained runners in the race, including two contenders for the 127th running of the Velka Pardubicka with Česká pojišťovna. The first of these was Delight My Fire, which had already fulfilled the qualification requirements, and the second was Pareto.

Goscater won the fourth qualification race last year unchallenged, and there was talk of supplementing him for theVelka Pardubicka. However, his state of health let him down. In this year’s June qualification race, the Town of Pardubice Stakes - Miloš Svoboda Memorial, however, Goscater showed that he is back by winning the prize after battling against well-fancied Hegnus.
